Barin Sports: From Trophy Wins to the Internet of People

15.09.2025

At Bulgarian Angels Club, we believe in backing visionary founders who combine bold ambition with the grit to execute against the odds. As the largest angel network in Bulgaria, we unite entrepreneurs, executives, and professionals who not only invest capital but also bring experience, mentorship, and networks that help early-stage companies scale.

For us, the most exciting investments are those that don’t just solve a problem, but have the potential to redefine industries. Barin Sports is one of those companies. Their journey, from scrappy hardware startup to cutting-edge AI analytics platform, is a perfect example of the kind of founder story we are proud to support and share with our community.

“If it was easy, it wouldn’t fall on us to do it.”

That phrase, repeated often inside Barin Sports, isn’t just a motto. It’s a way of working, and a lens through which the entire journey of the company can be understood.

For Barin, nothing has come easy, neither the early struggles of building hardware, nor the long nights turning it into a hardware-as-a-service model, nor the ambitious leap toward developing a full-scale, AI-driven performance analytics platform. But precisely because nothing was handed to them, the successes taste sweeter. Every step forward carries the weight of persistence.

Winning Changes Everything

Barin’s impact can be measured in victories. In their very first year of collaboration with Slavia, the club lifted the Bulgarian National Cup for the first time in 25 years.

The same story repeated itself in North Macedonia, where Makedonija Gjorche Petrov ended a 16-year drought with their first national cup, only to win again the following year. Then came Levski, claiming their first trophy in more than a decade.

For Barin, these weren’t coincidences. Their platform allowed teams to implement sustainable processes that strengthened player development and team cohesion. And when trophies followed, three times in three different contexts, it was clear they were building something with real, lasting value.

From Hardware to AI

Barin began as a hardware startup, a small company fighting to bring wearable devices into an industry dominated by global players. Over time, they realised that the hardware itself was only part of the puzzle. Turning wearables into a service gave them flexibility, but the true breakthrough was still ahead.
Today, their platform doesn’t just capture data; it processes, combines, and cross-analyses multiple verticals using proprietary algorithms, and it does so at scale, powered by AI.

Adaptability as the Secret Weapon

Barin’s product doesn’t live or die by a single feature. Instead, it adapts to each client.
For clubs focused on player development, they provide comprehensive databases that map out development curves and influence transfer value. For clubs chasing titles, they deliver predictive insights into injury risk and individualised training recommendations. The Bulgarian Football Union tracks performance across all national teams, from U15 to Men’s and Women’s, measuring condition, recovery, and progress.
One of their boldest projects is a long-term program with over 400 players in the U15 Elite division, building a rolling database that will follow them as they mature into professionals.

The People Behind the Platform

None of this would be possible without the team.
CEO and co-founder Vladimir Grozdanov brings deep expertise in wearables, AI, and sports performance, alongside leadership roles at IBM and Smartcom. CTO Ivan Ucherdzhiev is a robotics champion who trained in Tokyo and now leads Barin’s hardware and software development. Business Development Director Daniel Shopov combines corporate experience with a lifelong passion for sport. CFO Georgi Trankov, a veteran of finance with a CFO of the Year 2023 nomination, ensures financial discipline. And Dr. Emil Trifonov, Head of Sport Science, brings over 25 years in sports medicine, including consulting 18 medal-winning athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Together, they cover every angle of scaling a company with global ambition.

The Niche With Global Impact

Right now, Barin’s focus is on elite athlete performance. But they see this as only the beginning.
Elite athletes are like Formula 1 cars: they push human limits, and the innovations tested on them eventually filter down into everyday life. The data Barin collects today has the potential to shape how we train, recover, and even how healthcare is delivered. This is why they describe their vision as building the Internet of People (IoP), an evolution of IoT, where smart textiles and advanced analytics improve the health and well-being of entire populations.

Looking Ahead

Barin could sustain themselves today, selling just enough to cover expenses. But their ambition is far greater.
They are investing in automation, AI, and partnerships to maintain their technological edge. They are building toward a world where smart textiles are ubiquitous, and where the Internet of People is bigger than IoT.
For us at Bulgarian Angels Club, Barin represents exactly why we do what we do: support founders who combine vision, resilience, and execution power to build companies that can transform industries.
